THE DEMISE OF BIBLICAL MANHOOD

 

Isa 3:12

12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

 

          I like girls. I married one, and she is the love of my life, but I am witnessing the result of the feminization of our culture, and it is not good. Isaiah received the same opinion from God in chapter three. Children tyrannize their parents and the parents do not, indeed cannot, correct them. Women rule the day, or men who are effeminate and destitute of vigor, and liberated womanhood has soured our society.

 

          Isaiah heard the Lord say that He would stand up to “plead” (to grapple) with the people and to “judge” (to decide as an umpire). This announcement is full of foreboding and warning.

 

          Images of riots, burning police cars, horrific violence and generalized irreverence dominate our news and the criers beneath the lampposts deliver the news. Our leaders tell us lies that are so patently untrue we stand agape in wonder at the gall. Manners and decorum have been cast aside for wild costumes and even wilder audacity. The Septuagint indicates that the word “err” in our text means “to disturb or to trouble.”

 

          So, we seek a solution and a reversal, knowing it will require conflict and a Hero. Verse 14 says the Lord will “enter into judgement” which means He will pronounce a formal sentence and prescribe correction. He will restore order. Oh, may it be so in our time.

 

Dear Lord, our culture has crumbled and seems beyond repair but we know that nothing is impossible with Thee. Come and fix our brokenness. AMEN
