WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM?
Ps 55:22
22 Cast thy
burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the
righteous to be moved.
The fifty-fifth
psalm was probably written during Absalom’s rebellion against his father,
King David. It is written in the poetic style so familiar to David’s writing. It
addresses overwhelming problems and distresses by recalling calamities that are
familiar to most of us.
The feeling, during great
challenges, is that God is too busy for us or that He is capricious and is
hiding from us while we suffer alone. In the very first verse David begs God to
listen and not to hide himself. The word “attend” in verse two is the Hebrew qashab (kaw-shawb) and means “to prick up the ears.”
David suggests that his
suffering is similar to, or perhaps worse than, the shout of the enemy in
battle, or the relentless aggravation of the wicked who falsely accuse and
aggressively prosecute. It was fierce, like a damaging storm.
The pain is made
worse because it comes from a friend, in David’s case, a son. David
remembered the good times which made these bad times even more distressful. All
David wanted to do was to fly away (v.6).
So, what about you? What can you do
when you just can’t take it anymore? Having exhausted human strength,
ingenuity, and endurance, David suggests giving it to God for He will never suffer
the righteous to be moved (to slip and fall).
Thank you, Lord, for your constancy and care. AMEN
