WHAT EXCITES YOU?
Matt 6:19-22
19 Lay not up for
yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and
where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of
the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye
be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
KJV
The heart, as it is used
here, means “the thoughts and feelings of the mind.” It refers to those things
that interests us. Jesus had just contrasted two kinds of treasure – and I
almost hate using the word treasure because it often causes the reader to think
of nothing else but money. Let’s simply say that Jesus was contrasting heavenly
valuable things and earthly valuable things.
What excites you? You can’t
separate your heart from your treasure or your treasure from your heart. Your
love determines what you consider valuable. Is it heavenly or earthly?
Verse 22 need not
confuse us. It means clear vision. To the shooter it means an unobstructed line of
sight. To the person in a theater seat, it means not sitting behind a tall lady
wearing a hat. The idea is that, if you can’t see clearly, then you may stumble
or miss your target.
One of my friends, a missionary in
Papua New Guinea, reported baptizing thirteen converts! Now THAT excites me!
Dear Lord, change my heart that I might have clear vision of what is
truly valuable. AMEN
