HOW BRIGHT THE
MORNING
Eccl 11:6-7
6 In the morning
sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not
whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike
good.
7 Truly the light
is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
We have, just yesterday, re-set our
clocks to conserve the morning sun. This, of course, hastens the evening
darkness by an equal amount! Cows, chickens, and children do not comply with
such manipulations. Nevertheless, we agree that the morning sun in Autumn is a
glorious thing.
It is a worthy project to rise early
enough to capture the birth of a new day. Old farmers, although their work is
laid aside for winter, still rise early to don overalls and greasy caps freely
provided by the seed company, to sit with companions in coffee shops whose
atmosphere is bacon smoke and strong coffee.
These men are working by waiting. They have done
what man can do with the land and are waiting for God to do what only God can
do. They are confident that God has on His work clothes.
The horse is released from
the barn, and he runs for joy then stops to shiver on frosty ground in the
morning sun. Steam rises from his body as he turns his back to the sun.
So, what is the point of all this? What is the
spiritual application to these things which are glorious but generally ignored?
God did all this. God did all this.
Gen 8:22
22 While the earth
remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and
day and night shall not cease.
Thank you, Lord
for the wonder and blessing of the morning sun. AMEN
