COME BEFORE WINTER
2 Tim 4:18-21
18 And the Lord
shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly
kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
19 Salute Prisca
and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
20 Erastus abode
at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.
21 Do thy
diligence to come before winter.
Paul seldom fails to mirror my
deepest thoughts. Born out of a violent doubt, Paul yielded to a vibrant faith.
Rich, proud, and privileged, Paul surrendered to a life of service, humility,
and need.
Earlier, Paul had said he had fought a
good fight (2 Tim. 4:7). Through the conflict, Paul had kept his faith but was
obviously weary, old, and cold. He asks for his winter cloak, a few study books,
and his Bible. He is in the anteroom between this life and the next and is
anticipating the abandonment of physical discomfort. He is ready to snuggle up
to Jesus.
Remember that there are
people all around you that need just a few creature comforts and companionship.
Can you think of one or two? Today, make it your business to “come before
winter.”
Lord, thank you
for faithful friends, a warm coat, and a few books. Let me provide comfort and
encouragement today. AMEN
