AN ANSWER TO OUR FEARS!
Ps 27:1-5
27 The Lord is my light and my
salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my
life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies
and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should encamp
against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this
will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the
Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the
days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his
temple.
5 For in the time of trouble
he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall
he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
According to the Septuagint, this Psalm was written “before he was anointed” king. This
would mean David was running from the insane rage of King Saul who was
determined to kill him.
Most of us
are not being hunted by those seeking our lives yet we fear circumstances
beyond our control. Warren Wiersbe says “the secret to public confidence is
private obedience.” Solomon wrote in Proverbs 28:1 that “the
righteous are bold as a lion.”
The righteous,
those who have a right relationship with God, knows that he has a strong ally
in times of trouble. We don’t have to confront danger or trouble alone. When
things get out of hand we have a safe place to hide.
Do the cold fingers of fear grip your heart? David suggests that we patiently wait on the Lord.
Ps 27:14
14 Wait on the Lord: be of good
courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
Dear Lord, I am weak. Be my
strength. I am afraid. Be my courage and confidence. I am prone to fail. Be my
victory. AMEN
