SCRIPTURE’S MOST COMMON COMMAND!

SCRIPTURE’S MOST COMMON COMMAND!

Dan 10:19
O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

Did you know that the most common command found in the Bible is “fear not?” It is found in the King James Version 63 times. I think it highlights the natural tendency of man and the gentleness of God. “He knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.” (Psalm 103:14)

George H. Morrison says that courage is “self-forgetfulness.” The great cause of the moment forces us to focus our thinking away from ourselves. We become so involved with the doing of a deed that we forget, momentarily, the danger in doing it. In the end it is called courage but truly it is that we have forgotten to be afraid.

A better cure for fear might be to remember God. Remember God’s nature is benevolent. Remember that God is always purposeful and not impulsive and unpredictable. Remember that God is more powerful than any of our enemies. We have no need that He is not able to supply.

Dear Lord, help me to remember that the commonest command of Scripture is to “fear not.” AMEN
