REDUCING GOD TO A MANAGEABLE SIZE!

REDUCING GOD TO A MANAGEABLE SIZE!

Rom 1:21-23
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

God is much too large for some people. He is inconveniently and uncomfortably present at every function and activity. He is bossy and a bit of a prude. Adam discovered, after his fall, that it is hard to hide from Him as well. He comes calling your name until you show yourself from behind some bush. He is just too big.

Man has tried to reduce God to a manageable size. Man first thought to make God like himself; another man but with super powers like Hercules. God was still too big. Next man thought God to be a bird like the eagle of Jupiter among the Romans or the hawk among the Egyptians. His sweeping and swooping presence was still too invasive. Man then thought God to be more manageable as a four footed beast like one of their cattle. Although a bull was large yet he could be controlled with a stick. Finally God was reduced to creeping things like the scarabeus beetle of the Egyptians.

2 Sam 22:7-12
7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
8 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.
9 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.
11 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.
12 And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

Almighty God, I thank you for being such a God as you are. Be the answer for all my needs today and let my soul rejoice in worship. AMEN
