THE GIFT OF CARING
Luke 10:33-34
33 But a certain
Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had
compassion on him,
34 And went to
him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own
beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Some people are gifted at
reading the feelings of others. They feel compelled to render aid and provide
comfort. They empty their own resources to right a wrong. We call them empaths.
An empath is a person highly attuned to the feelings and emotions of those
around them. Empaths feel what another person is feeling at a deep emotional
level.
The jury is still
out as to whether this condition is a gift or a curse. It is seldom sought after and sometimes unacknowledged and unappreciated.
Empaths are givers in a world of takers. If they are not careful, they can be exploited
and abused. Caring always costs something!
If you are gifted
with caring, do not mourn your plight. Thank God that you are not the wounded
traveler or the pompous and careless who look the other way. Expect to be the
gentle hand of an invisible but caring God. There are many like yourself in
this world not few. Wear your burden resolutely and expect God to resupply your
stores so that you may care again.
Isa 58:6-7
6 Is not this the
fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy
burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to
deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to
thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide
not thyself from thine own flesh?
Dear Lord, though it costs me and sometimes hurts, let my journey be
one of caring. AMEN
