THIS
ONE THING!
Phil 3:10-14
10
That
I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the
fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
11
If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
12
Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I
follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am
apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I
do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those
things which are before,
14
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ
Jesus.
Luke 10:42
42
But one thing is needful: and
Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Paul
entered the ministry a bit later in life and was spared the brashness of youth.
In fact most of the disciples were men of maturity who had been involved
successfully in other ventures before God’s claim on their life. But it was
Paul who offers his opinion of the most important thing and Jesus says AMEN to
it. This ONE THING is a close-and-getting-closer relationship to
Christ.
Paul
presented
a past that should remain in the past, a present full of activity and a future
of even closer association with the Master. Mary might have busied herself in
the kitchen with Martha but she chose the ONE THING that was essential
to her which was sitting at the feet of Jesus. We do not need more stuff! We
need more of Jesus!
Dear
Lord, be close to me today – and let me be closer to you. AMEN
