WHILE
ROME BURNS!
Eccl
11:4
4
He
that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall
not reap.
It
is said that Nero fiddled on his lyre while Rome was burning in A. D. 64.
This has given rise to a phrase “to fiddle while Rome burns.” It means to
occupy oneself with unimportant matters during a crisis. Our own president has
been accused of golfing while Baton Rouge, Louisiana is under six feet of flood
water.
Solomon
agrees with C. S. Lewis that favorable conditions will never come. This
world’s system is designed so that we must, along with Nehemiah’s people,
handle both the sword and the trowel. In other words, we must build while
remaining constantly on guard.
We
have never seen
so many available opportunities to abandon responsibility! We have all laughed
as the distracted young woman falls into the fountain while texting. Research
is incomplete as to how many people have been run over by automobiles while
chasing Pokémon characters! Any alien landing here would rightly think us to be
insane.
We
can’t seem to differentiate between problems that are real and problems that
are trivial. Jesus tried to help us with this when He asked: “For what is a man
profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what
shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matt 16:26) These are the
last days! We must focus on soul issues.
It
is amazing to watch
when those who are facing real crises respond by abandoning their support
system and resort to chasing rainbows. Please read Amos 6:3 – 7.
Eph
6:13
13
Wherefore
take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the
evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Dear
Lord, the hour draws near that you will return. Heaven is brighter and earth is
darker. Let us properly prioritize the issues of life and gird our armor on.
AMEN
