THE
WORK OF OUR HANDS!
Ps
90:14-17
14
O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our
days.
15
Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the
years wherein we have seen evil.
16
Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
17
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou
the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish
thou it.
Verse
one ascribes this psalm to Moses the man of God. It seems to occur
during a time when the children of Israel sinned while in the wilderness. The
reference to God as our “dwelling place” or fixed habitation is meant to
encourage the heart of the people who were vagabonds living in tent cities.
Moses,
in verse 12, asks God
to teach them to number [to weigh out or to a lot] their days that they may
apply their hearts unto wisdom. How elusive wisdom seems to be when we are
young and impetuous. Everything is action and a blur of color. Now that age has
brought wisdom, Moses asks for wisdom to apportion his remaining days for
productivity.
In
verse 17 Moses requests the “beauty” [delightful presence and favor] of the
Lord to rest upon them and to allow them to carry out their plans and to
accomplish their purposes. They acknowledge that God is the key ingredient in
any successful endeavor.
Ps
127:1
127:1
A Song of degrees for Solomon.
Except
the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD
keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Dear
Lord, without you I can do nothing. With you I can do anything! Thank you for
this fresh day. AMEN
