THE
FATHER’S BLESSING!
Gen
49:28
28
All
these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their
father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing
he blessed them.
The
words we speak
to our children will be remembered by them and repeated by them for generations
to come! In the verses preceding verse 28, Jacob gave a patriarchal blessing to
each of his sons. Each one was different. Each one accurately identified each
son and became a prophecy of their future. Words are very powerful.
Several
years ago,
when Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb’s longstanding record for the most career hits, a
reporter asked him what he thought about as he stood on base with the whole stadium
on its feet cheering wildly. Rose said that he thought that his dad was
probably looking down from heaven and was pleased with him. Of all the things
Pete Rose could think about at that moment, as a grown man
he was still thinking about his father’s approval.
If
you are a parent,
especially a father, bless your children! The Hebrew word for bless is barak
and means “to bestow or to pronounce good.” Prophecy a good future for them if
you can. If you are a child, even a grown child, bless your parents. Honor and
obey them (Ephesians 6:1-3). Words are very powerful!
Never
forget
that God is a blessing father. “The blessing of the Lord , it maketh
rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22
Dear
Lord, let me bless my children and grandchildren. Thank you for blessing me.
AMEN
