UNPROFITABLE FOR YOU

UNPROFITABLE FOR YOU!

Heb 10:25
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Heb 13:17
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Warren Wiersbe contends that “The larger a church grows, the more difficult it becomes to care for the sheep.” The reason, I think, is that so many today do not see a direct correlation between regular church attendance and God’s blessings.

Some think that any discussion of faithful church attendance is so that the pastor might have his ego gently stroked. Actually, missing church is a sin. Yes, a sin! If Hebrews 10:25 is a command then to disobey that command is a sin. Some would complain that the Bible only seems to have ONE verse that deals with this subject. I would challenge you to show me ANY verse that allows for casual attendance that is interrupted by any event or activity that is perceived to be more important. A short list of those events may be a child’s ball game, piano recital, family reunion, a birthday, rainy day, sunny day, good day for fishing, and a poor day for fishing.

Jesus saw the people of His time as “sheep having no shepherd!” (Matthew 9:36) This verse points out two problems: shepherds and sheep. Sheep are prone to wander, nose to the ground and grazing, without paying attention to where they are going. They are literally always searching for greener grass until they look up and realize that they are lost. The shepherds were to blame for not herding them and caring for them.

One of my personal hair coats are people who because of difficulties avoid contact with church. They foolishly, even if temporarily, reject the very thing that can turn their situation around. When we avoid confrontation with a judging God we also avoid the comfort of a loving God.

Ps 122:1
1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.

Dear Lord, thank you for Church. It is there my sins are challenged and it is there my sins find forgiveness. Thank you for the encouragement of community and the instruction of your Word. AMEN
