THE MASTER’S MEEKNESS!

THE MASTER’S MEEKNESS!

Matt 11:29
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Phil 2:5-8
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

           The usual demeanor of the Son of God was gentleness and meekness. He stood in glaring contrast to the audacity of the Pharisees who thought themselves to be worthy of special privilege. Few things are so repelling as common men dressed in finery. Few things are as attractive as fine men dressed commonly. Jesus was not demanding and brash. He was a favorite of children and the downtrodden. It was said of Him that “he eateth with sinners and publicans.”

           Jesus taught His disciples not to demand service but to serve. It was not the way of man who lord over one another. The forthrightness of John the Baptist gave way to the gentleness of that other John who leaned upon the breast of the Master at supper. Listen as He teaches.

Matt 20:25-28
25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

           Meekness is not weakness! It is the solicitude of true love. The hireling who sees the flock as a resource or an income will never stand to face the lion or the bear. He will flee but the good shepherd will give his life for the sheep. He leads his sheep beside the still waters and along the green meadows. They lie down in safety because of the strength and gentleness of the shepherd.

Great Shepherd of my soul let me assume your attitude today as I lead. AMEN
