MIND CONTROL
Prov 23:7
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:
Phil 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Our thoughts are our own, are they not? Well, maybe not. Orwellian
is the only way to describe the mind control that grips us today. We have
recently tracked how the mainstream media outlets have used the word “weird.” George
Washington University has a professor of “strategic communication.” Professor
Karpf noted, “[calling someone weird] frustrates opponents, leading them to
further amplify it [the weirdness] through off-balance responses.”
My wife tells of a college prank that targeted a
young professor. The students decided to comment on the professor’s tie. He had
so many comments both good and bad that he went home at lunch time and changed
his tie!
Our first verse today refers to a
pattern of thinking. Dr Barnes says that “The Hebrew verb is found here only,
and probably means, "as he is all along in his heart, so is he (at last)
in act."
(from Barnes' Notes, Electronic Database Copyright © 1997, 2003, 2005,

Our second verse refers to intentional
thinking. It is thought under control. It is focused thinking. It is thinking
that has rejected certain thoughts and personalized and internalized others. Why
are some people cruel and others kind? Could it be that one has rejected
cruelty and embraced kindness? We do have this ability to control our thinking
and therefore who we are. Do not allow anyone to manipulate you for evil.
John 10:27
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Dear Lord, many are the voices that bid me follow. Let me follow you.
AMEN
