A WORLD GONE MAD

 

Mark 5:15-17

15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. KJV

 

          This morning I heard a random comment from a young French girl in a WWII movie. She and her father were walking with hundreds of refugees from occupied Paris to the relative safety of another French town. She said, “It seems that everyone in the world has suddenly gone mad at the same time.”

 

          We appear to be there once again. Some kind of twisted reasoning has possessed many. The most repulsive and irrational cruelties are lauded as justified. The most wicked political responses find officials firmly supportive of both sides and, therefore, completely ineffective as leaders. The most nauseating conclusions of failed reasoning have blinded some so that no comparison to anything natural is sufficient in describing the lunacy. To describe this as jackassery only serves to defame the poor Jackass.

 

John 16:2-3

2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you [an obvious reference to Jews and, later, to believers] will think that he doeth God service. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

 

Blessed are you Lord, for you know the wicked plans of man. You confound them. You frustrate them and break their weapons. You shrug and the earth trembles. You rise and mountains melt. You frown and your beloved ones are protected. Uncover your strong right arm for the world has become mad. AMEN
