PRAYING FOR YOUR PASTOR – ON THURSDAY
Heb 13:20-21
20 Now the God of
peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of
the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight,
through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. KJV
Most of us will
pray for our ministers on Sunday or on rare occasions when they
cross our mind or trample our thoughts. Today is Thursday which, in the grand
arrangement of weekdays, seems of little importance. But what is my ministry
staff doing on Thursday? Well, I am experientially aware that Thursdays are
often “deadline” days. The sermon should be done, or at least the title should
be chosen so the secretary can finish printing the bulletin. It is Friday eve.
Our Scripture
portion suggests that some benedictions might also belong at the beginning of
a venture. This portion in Hebrews is an excellent prayer guide when we consider
our ministry staff.
Pray for God’s
mysterious but functional perfecting work. Pray that God will keep
on fine tuning His purpose for your pastor. Pray that He will bring into his
life those who can influence him for good even if the circumstances of these
encounters seem bad at the time. Pray that God will shut down some of his pet
projects because they do not fit God’s purposes for your pastor. Pray that God
will lead him through hard paths because they end in the accomplishment of God’s
greater purpose. Pray that God would work with your pastor so that he would become
skilled and confident.
Joseph, at the end of a
long series of painful experiences, was able to understand God’s overruling
guidance.
Gen 50:19-20
19 And Joseph
said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for
you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it
unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. KJV
Dear Lord, for the sake of Your church bless and guide our ministers
today. AMEN
