WITHOUT FAITH!
Heb 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
KJV
How can a person claim to be a worshipper who is yet unconvinced of the existence of One to be worshipped? The agnostic loathes to call himself an atheist, but he is little else. He claims to simply not know whether there is a God. There may be but his own personal research has not confirmed it. He stumbles through life hoping that God, if there truly is one, will help him in times of trouble while he refuses to claim God’s moral limitations. He is a true worshipper of himself.
Job, full of pain and empty of answers, gives us a model of action when God seems to act in a fashion that casts doubt upon His attributes. When God seems to be “out of sorts” it is even more required that we trust Him.
Moreover, it is wise to believe that God is not indifferent to our worship and that He, being benevolent by nature, is moved to even more acts of kindness in response to worship.
Paul struggled without clear direction just before receiving a call to venture into Macedonia. He was eager but God was patient. He had plans but God cancelled them. So, the life of the one who travels with God is fashioned by many roadblocks. The one who has never heard God say NO will doubt when God says YES.
Ps 42:5
5 Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, my Help and my God.
