ON
BEING OVER-QUALIFIED!
Phil
3:4-9
4
Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh
that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
5
Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin,
an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6
Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in
the law, blameless.
7
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the
knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all
things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law,
but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of
God by faith:
Ps
62:9
9
Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be
laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.
Overqualified:
having more education, training, or experience than a job calls for. Paul certainly
would have been overqualified for most of his ministry duties. He was trained
to be a lawyer and a judge of other men. He was superior in intellect to most
of those who comprised his audience. He was overqualified to be a simple
preacher of the gospel. Paul knew an important principle in sharing the faith
of Jesus. Faith should not be founded upon the intellect of the one presenting
the truth.

Cor 2:2-5
2
For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him
crucified.
3
And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's
wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but
in the power of God.
The
Psalmist said
that both those of low and high degrees would seem lighter than a breath when
weighed in the balance of truth “they kick the beam”. They rise so high
and so fast as to reach the utmost height of the scales. Truth is heavy and
they are light. The gathering of degrees and awards are only useful to impress
others who are also gathering degrees and awards. They count for
nothing when the time comes to comfort a wounded heart or to quiet a crying
child. They are lighter than breath.

Cor 1:26-29
26
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh,
not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and
God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are
mighty;
28
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen,
yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29
That no flesh should glory in his presence.
Lord,
let me not spurn training and education but let me thank you for thinking that
I might be of some use to you. AMEN
