NEW
AND LIVING WAY!
Josh
3:3-4
3
And
they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the
Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall
remove from your place, and go after it.
4
Yet
there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by
measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for
ye have not passed this way heretofore.
Heb
10:19-20
19
Having
therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20
By
a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through
the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
The
Hebrew word
used for “way” in Joshua is the word derek and it simply means
“road” but figuratively it means “a course of life.” The Jews had never passed
that way before and would require God’s guidance and courageous human
leadership.
In
Hebrews
the words zao and hodos are translated “living
way.” The idea is a new and vibrant manner of living. Both the Old Testament
and the New indicate a radical change. This was a change from self
determination to divine leadership.
Oh,
how we need divine leadership. Looking back over the wreckage strewn
over the old way, we should gladly follow the wise and benevolent leadership of
a loving God.
Dear
Lord, many today are about to embark upon a new way of life. Perhaps it is a
change in their health or a new relationship or a new job. All these are major
life changes that cry out for your leadership and mercy. Please be God to us
today and make us wise enough to follow. AMEN
