A
WORD FITLY SPOKEN!
Prov
25:11
11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
This
proverb is lovely
but it almost defies proper interpretation by those of us trapped in today’s
culture and language. Our language has lost its beauty and its poetry. We are
left with guttural sounds and gestures.
The
word “fitly” actually refers to that which revolves; wheels! So we
read “a word upon its wheels.” It refers to that communication that moves
quickly and quietly on its way. Merriam – Webster defines “fitly” as “adapted
to a purpose; appropriate!”
The
apples of gold actually refer to the orange in many eastern cultures. These
being displayed in intricately woven silver baskets may grace the tables of
kings. The right word spoken at the right time is both lovely and refreshing.
How
many sermons must we hear before we hear the one meant just for us? Once we hear it
we recognize that it fits our circumstance perfectly. It is as if God knows
every detail of our lives. Why are we always surprised at this?
Prov
12:25
25
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Dear
Lord, deliver kind and beneficial words to those who stoop today. Gladden their
hearts! May they hear news that is perfectly suited to their time and
circumstance. May they hear good news today. AMEN
