BLINDED MINDS
2 Cor 4:3-4
3 But if our
gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world [Satan] hath blinded the minds of them which
believe not, lest the light of the glorious
gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. KJV
2 Peter 3:3
5 For this they
willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and
the earth standing out of the water and in the water: KJV
Paul reminded the Corinthian
church that Satan is busy clouding minds and questioning truth. This was a
thinly veiled condemnation of their own confused thinking. Part of their
confusion was, no doubt, cultural. Corinth was a bustling trade route and into
it flowed strange things, strange languages, and strange beliefs. It was easy
to become a cultural, moral, religious stew.
Education is not
the answer to moral, political, and religious confusion. Religion, as an
institution, is not the answer either because many people will gravitate to
mystic aestheticism instead of truth clad in common clothes. If you doubt this
simply picture the itinerant Jesus and the stuffy Pharisees. One was common
clad and the other was adorned in ornate garb.
Peter affirmed that we are
often complicit in our own ignorance because it is more popular and more comfortable
to be ignorant than enlightened. We group together in clans and gangs so that
we don’t have to exert much energy in thinking. In this we are “willingly
ignorant.”
Heb 4:1-2
4 Let us
therefore fear [be alarmed], lest, a promise being left us of entering into his
rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was
the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. KJV
Lord, let me know the truth that I may be free. Let me tell the truth
so that others may be free as well. AMEN
