IF YOU CAN KEEP IT
1 Peter 5:8
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: KJV
On September 17, 1787, delegates left the Constitutional Convention in Independence Hall in Philadelphia. As they exited, Benjamin Franklin was asked what kind of government do we have? "A Republic," he replied, "if you can keep it."
For months, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention worked to devise a system of government that would keep the worst intentions of man in check. Because, as Franklin put it earlier in the Convention, "the first man put at the helm will be a good one, nobody knows what sort may come afterward."
Pyro-debris from our Independence Day celebration has yet to be collected and we now return to the anxiety of “keeping” our republic. The collective insanity of some government officials is baffling. We sense that some must be in consort with the Devil. Their speeches are too well rehearsed. If teachers, we would suspect them of copying answers from their neighbor’s paper.
We must RECOGNIZE this enemy! He is subtle and cunning. He can’t be trusted even when smiling – especially when smiling.
We must RESIST this enemy! Just as David took his stand against Goliath, and trusted in the name of Jehovah, so we take our stand against Satan in the victorious name of Jesus Christ.
2 Tim 3:13-14
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
Dear God of Battles, keep our nation from evil. Bless every effort of good and frustrate every conspiracy of wickedness. AMEN
