GET
OUT OF THE GRAVE YARD!
Mark 5:2-6
2
And when he [Jesus] was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of
the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
5
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying,
and cutting
himself with stones.
6
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him.
What
was it
that initially demonized this man? We are not told. We only see the forensic
evidence of a tormented past and present. We know he was a family man because
Jesus would ultimately deny him the privilege of travelling with him. He was
told to get out of the grave yard and go home to his family.
What
pain caused this man to cut himself and to engage in self-destructive
behavior? We do not know but he could be any man or woman in our present
culture. We live in a painful world.
If
you find yourself in a similar gave yard,
remind yourself that the Creator of the universe values you deeply. You are His
workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) created in His image (Genesis 1:27) and made
complete in His son, Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:10). He has bought you with a
great price (1 Corinthians 6:20, John 3:16), calls you His friend (John 15:15)
and desires a relationship with you (1 John 1:3).
Ps 139:14
14
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy
works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
