FAINTING
IN OUR MINDS!
Heb 12:3
3
For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself,
lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
We
live in a demanding world that has not been made more restful by modern
conveniences. No, instead of providing peace and rest, modern gadgets have
actually added to our stress. But that is only one symptom of a larger problem.
Elijah, in 1 Kings 19:4, had been battling the
prophets of Baal. By God’s grace and power he had won a great victory. Now he
sits beneath a juniper tree and “ he requested for himself that he might die;
and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better
than my fathers.” Wow! That is hardly a victory celebration.
Elijah
had forgotten
the source of his strength and blamed himself for being weary. He had been
fasting for 40 days and his body was weak and tired. He was being hunted by a
wicked queen who vowed to take his life. Now he requests that that life be
taken from him by God. He was literally resigning his position because he was
too physically and mentally exhausted to carry on.
Rest
was God’s merciful answer along with nourishment. Self care is not selfishness. It is essential maintenance for the
body, mind, and soul. Elijah ate and slept and was awakened to eat again.
Isa 40:31
31
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount
up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk,
and not faint.
Lord,
let me be wise enough to recognize my fainting spells for what they are. Let me
be wise enough to wait on you for the renewal of my strength. AMEN
