RESISTANCE!

1 Peter 5:6-9

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

          We now are feeling resistance from the corrupt culture in which we live! Open opposition to truth and reason are now the standard that challenges our mission. We have been warned by Paul that “evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse” (2 Timothy 3:13). Now we are experiencing it like an overwhelming flood. A thousand pin pricks may bleed us as well as a saber slice!

          Vigilance and sobriety are needed as we conduct our Christian lives as lambs among wolves (Luke 10:3). This new way of life requires us to humble ourselves against the mighty hand of God and to acknowledge our weakness before Him. Paul learned that when he was weak – God made him strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).

          David stood against Goliath with courage but what started as a shouting match ultimately ended with a stone and a sword, so we take our stand against Satan in the victorious name of Jesus Christ! Someone once said: “if you do not encounter push back then you aren’t pushing hard enough.”

Dear Lord, let us first be firmly anchored in your Word of Truth so that we may resist the Devil. AMEN
