LOVE
IS A THREE-LEGGED RACE
Eph
4:32
32 And be ye kind one to
another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake
hath forgiven you.
I remember, as a child, the end-of-year field trips to the
park. One of the constant features was the sack races and the three-legged
races. One forced upon the contestant a limitation without aid. The other
forced two to run as one by binding together the inboard legs. Each runner must
cooperate with the other if they were to finish.
Partners must decide who will determine the
cadence. The bound legs must work as one. Love and marriage are like that. Each
runner must rely on the other by yielding individuality.
As we age, individual strengths fade, and the best
relationships have learned to lean on one another while yielding weaknesses to
the stronger partner.
Eph
5:24-25
24 Therefore as the
church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in
every thing.
25 Husbands, love your
wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Dear
Lord, let me learn the strengths and weaknesses of my partner. Let me surrender
pride to her strengths and let my strengths support her in her weaknesses. And
let us run together so that we may finish and perhaps win. AMEN
