Gal
6:2-5
2 Bear
ye one another's burdens, and
so fulfil the law of Christ.
3 For if a man think himself to be
something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
4 But let every man prove his own work,
and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
As believers, we are enjoined
to help others carry their burden. In verse 2 the Greek word for “burden” is baros
which means “weight or load.” We are to have sympathy; feel for each
other and try to lighten the load that others are carrying. We do this by
praying for them, certainly, but we also are to practically and literally help
them to carry whatever is weighing them down.
The Greek word for “burden” is
different in verse 5. It
is the word phortion which indicates a task or service. We might paraphrase
by saying that every man must do his own job and complete his own
assignment.
We must, if we are going to provide real
relief, determine whether a burden is a load or a task. I can help you carry
your load, but you must do your own work.
2 Cor
5:10
10 For we must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his
body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Dear Lord, let me make room on my
shoulders for the burdens of others. AMEN
