I SEE JESUS!

Acts 7:53-56

53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. KJV

There are some romantic explanations for why Jesus STOOD while witnessing the martyrdom of Deacon Stephen. It is often suggested that Jesus stood in honor of Stephen and to welcome him home. We do not want to challenge this too much because we look forward to the same welcome when our time comes.

There are indications that Jesus stood out of anger and ready to pounce upon the violent Pharisees. In Psalm 110 The Father bids the Son to SIT at his right hand until He made His enemies His footstool. The act of standing did not bode well for the enemies!

Stephen saw an open portal and knew that there would be both a welcome for him and a recompense for his enemies. In the mundane avenues of life, we long to SEE Jesus.

Lord, show us enough of yourself to soothe the weary, encourage the downtrodden, and to cheer us on. AMEN
