FAULT
LINES!
1
Peter 5:8
8
Be
sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
1
Cor 10:12
12
Wherefore
let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
The
San Andreas Fault
is a continental transform fault that extends roughly 800 miles (1,300 km)
through California. The fault divides into three segments, each with different
characteristics and a different degree of earthquake risk, the most significant
being the southern segment, which passes within about 35 miles (56 km) of
Los Angeles. (Source Wikipedia)
There
are fault lines in each one of us. Paul reminded the experienced believers
who were strong in the faith that they had better not grow overconfident in
their ability to overcome temptation. There are weaknesses which pose a constant
threat of failure. Satan knows this and roams about “seeking whom he may
devour.” Sober vigilance is needed not only to keep an eye on evil but to keep
an eye on our own weaknesses. We must know our enemy and we must know
ourselves.
1
Cor 10:13
13
There
hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is
faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are
able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape,
that ye may be able to bear it.
Dear
Lord, let me always be reminded of my own fault lines and rely on you for a way
to escape. AMEN
