REASON
TO REJOICE!
Ps
5:11-12
11
But
let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for
joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in
thee.
12
For
thou, Lord , wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as
with a shield.
Things
were not good in the kingdom. Absalom had led a rebellion against
his father, the king, and David begins his psalm addressing the pain he felt.
He decided to turn his enemies over to the Lord and 2 Samuel 18:8 tells us that
"the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.”
David
didn’t rejoice
because his enemies were defeated but because Israel’s God had been glorified
and the king vindicated. The outcome of our fellowship with the Lord should be
joy in His character, His promises, and His gracious answers to prayer.
David began his devotions seeking help
for himself but ended by seeking blessing for all the people, including his
enemies. That's the way our devotional times ought to end.
Dear
Lord, today I have much to rejoice about. Bless those whose foolishness has
turned them from you. Rescue and return those who have strayed. AMEN
