A
FAMINE IS COMING!
Amos 8:11-12
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the
land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but
of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea,
and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word
of the Lord , and shall not find
it.
Ps 74:9
9 We see not our signs: there is no more
any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
It
is said that the poor of Haiti will fashion cookies made of yellow dirt. We who live
just a few miles north of that impoverished country can’t understand this. But
we too are in the midst of a famine and we are eating unimaginable stuff that
is a poor substitute for the Word of God.
God
has given us up
to our own wicked thoughts but He has left us a gnawing hunger for truth. We
run “from sea to sea” or from coast to coast and we can’t find the God we
crave. We sample first one new trend and then another but it does not suffice.
We stand until our shoes pinch and our backs hurt clapping our hands at first
one little religious ditty and then another but our hearts are not comforted.
There is very little worship in our worship and there is no word from the Lord.
We
leave our church services without the wonder of God upon our faces.
Soon we blend in with the rest of the crowd at the local restaurants. We do not
know or remember what we have experienced. The psalmist says that we see no
sign of God anywhere. There is nobody that seems to be a prophet and nobody
seems to know how long this will last.
Matt 5:6
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and
thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Oh, Holy God! I am so hungry for
you today. Come and satisfy my hunger and thirst. AMEN
