HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!

Isa 6:1-3
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord  of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

Rev 4:8
8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

1 Peter 1:15
15 But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living.

The idea of holiness has fallen on hard times. It is much more fashionable in today’s churches to be cool. The whole atmosphere of our Christian culture strains to be acceptable to the world rather than separate from it. Nevertheless, God is holy and expects us to be holy as well.

As it relates to God, holiness means worthy of absolute devotion; sacred! Isaiah certainly saw the same creatures, which he calls seraphim, as was described in Revelation. Each one had six wings and “with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.” As they flew they cried “Holy, Holy, Holy!” Most of us are not properly prepared for this scene. Paul certainly wasn’t. After being stoned and left for dead, Paul speaks of himself in the third person in the following verses.

2 Cor 12:2-4
2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

As it relates to men and women, holiness involves motive and behavior. Warren Wiersbe comments on holiness:God's holiness is an essential part of His nature. "God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). Any holiness that we have in character and conduct must be derived from Him. Basically, to be sanctified means to be "set apart for God's exclusive use and pleasure." It involves separation from that which is unclean and complete devotion to God (2 Cor 6:14-7:1). We are to be holy "in all manner of conversation [behavior]," so that everything we do reflects the holiness of God.”

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Dear Lord, let me be so near to your holiness as to reflect your holiness in all my motives and behavior. AMEN
