ARE REVIVALS RELEVANT

Psa 85:4-7

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.

Psa 85:5  Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

Psa 85:6  Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Psa 85:7  Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation.

It seems to me that revivals have fallen out of favor with many churches. Perhaps they are viewed as irrelevant or old-fashioned. They have been replaced with Bible conferences, whatever that may be, and other sensational events meant to attract the disenchanted. But there is theology in revivals.

The late Billy Graham said, “America needs spiritual awakening through God's sovereign outpouring of His Spirit while the church needs revival, starting with individuals.”  Feb 1, 2025, Decision Magazine. In saying this, Graham believed that both politics and people tend to stray from righteousness and efforts should be made to restore and return.

To discount the need for revival is to deny sin. “Such is the way of an adulterous sinful woman [or man]; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness. Proverbs 30:20 Even though salvation has been secured, our tendency to stray remains as Paul agonizingly describes in Romans chapter 7.

Rom 7:18

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Rom 7:19

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

Mal 3:7

Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

Lord, revive us again. AMEN
