DON’T LET YOUR
MIND BE TAKEN CAPTIVE
Col 2:8
8 Beware lest any
man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after
Christ. KJV
In these last days, the truth is so
very rare. Paul warned of philosophy, which we generally praise because
we define it as learned wisdom and the ability to articulate it. However, the
word Paul used referred to Jewish sophistry. In fact, he used a definite
article to pinpoint it.
Sophistry is the misuse of
words whereby an illogical argument is made to appear logical. In this way, an
argument that has no merit whatsoever, can be made to appear to be right and
logical. Sophistry is a lie formed by verbally twisting meanings and words.
One such subtle lie is syncretism. Syncretism
involves the merging or assimilation of several originally discrete traditions,
especially in the theology and mythology of religion, thus asserting an
underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to other
faiths. You have heard it said that “all roads (faiths) lead to heaven.”
Somewhere inside you a little voice whispered, “That can’t be right.” Christianity
is exclusive and cannot be blended into an all-inclusive ecumenism.
Another untruth that is growing
in popularity is Universalism. This is a theological doctrine that all
human beings will eventually be saved. These are the principles and
practices of a liberal Christian denomination founded in the 18th century
originally to uphold belief in universal salvation and now united
with Unitarianism. Once again that small voice asks, “If this is so, why
preach? Why exercise missionary effort? This can’t be right.”
There are enough “isms” as Satan thinks
you might need. It was he who first said: “unto the woman, Ye shall not surely
die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be
opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Gen
3:4-5
2 Cor 11:3
3 But I fear, lest
by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds
should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. KJV
Dear Lord, in
these days, the mind seems to be the Devil’s playground. We seem willing to
listen to twisted words from those who cleverly articulate lies. Give us discerning
minds and faithful hearts. AMEN
