WHO’S DRIVING THE BUS?

Mark 9:33-35

33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

At the scene of the bus crash, accident investigators found a truly unusual set of circumstances! They couldn’t determine who was driving the bus because the bus was full of uniformed bus drivers! The bus had driven over an embankment and tumbled down a steep ravine. All the bus drivers were dead except for one who had a nasty gash on his head. They asked him what had happened, and he told them this unusual story.

This particular bus would pick up bus drivers and transport them to the station so that each could begin his day driving one of the busses for the company. Along the way one driver became convinced that the driver had lost his way and demanded to be allowed to take over the task of driving. An argument ensued and the disgruntled driver grabbed the wheel giving it a sharp yank. The bus crashed.

The disciples, on their way to Capernaum, were headed for a crash. An argument ensued as to who was going to be the greatest – but they were already being led by the Greatest! Jesus, the bus driver, explained that for the safety of the riders, and the surety of the destination, only One could be the driver. He would serve the rest.

Dear Lord, help me to control my desire to drive and to be content with keeping my seat. Guide me safely to my destination. AMEN
