DON’T
CLOSE YOUR EYES!
Luke 4:18-19
18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the
gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance
to the captives, and recovering of sight
to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the
acceptable year of the Lord.
Jesus
was quoting from Isaiah chapter 42. Simeon, when he first saw the baby
Jesus, quoted the last portion of Isaiah 42:6. On this Christmas Eve the eyes
should be wide open.
Irene
and I spent yesterday with our eyes wide open. We visited some of our elderly
shut-ins and delivered cards and Poinsettias. It was truly a small gesture and
we received much more than we gave. We discovered that one lady had fallen and
broken her elbow. Another man sat in a motorized wheel chair growing more
feeble due to a mysterious nerve disease. His wife is tired.
Along
the way
we witnessed an auto accident that happened just feet from our own vehicle.
Fortunately, a Bowie Police officer was waiting at the same traffic light. It’s
a good idea to keep your eyes open.
Keep
your eyes open to the pain of others and move to soothe them. Keep your eyes
open to the need of others and move to relieve them. Keep your eyes open to the
will of God and move to obey Him. Keep your eyes open to the wonder and
surprise of God’s intervention. Be ready when God breaks through.
Luke 2:29-30
29
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Dear
Lord, open my eyes today to see all your wonders. AMEN
