TO
DIE FOR!
Rom
5:6-8
6
For
when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7
For
scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some
would even dare to die.
8
But
God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us.
Our
modern language
has developed several new phrases, one of which is “to die for.” It is a
superlative description of most anything. I once heard a lady describe the
desserts at a local restaurant as “to die for.” This recommendation caused our
group to use this restaurant as our caterer. Well, the desserts were actually
not that good and certainly not “to die for.”
Paul
described an already known fact. Many have ventured and sacrificed
their lives to benefit another. Soldiers are prime examples of this selfless
sacrifice of life and limb. He said: “for a good man some would dare to die.”
Now,
I’m not perfect,
but Jesus thinks I’m “to die for!” He looked beyond my many faults and traded
His life for mine. He became me with all my sins and invited me to become Him
with all His righteousness. It was like trading jackets with someone! Mine was
threadbare and could not protect against the winds of condemnation. His was
plush and warm and windproof.
John
15:13
13
Greater
love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Dear
Lamb of God, I was guilty but you were smitten. I was on death row but you were
the one who died. Thank you for considering me worthy “to die for.” AMEN
