WALKING
ON HOLY GROUND!
Ex
3:1-6
3:1
Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and
he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of
God, even to Horeb.
2
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst
of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush
was not consumed.
3
And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush
is not burnt.
4
And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of
the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5
And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy
feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look
upon God.
Just when he thought it was safe to go
for a stroll,
just when life had settled into a boring routine, just when Moses thought he
might simply enjoy the tranquility of semi-retirement there appears a burning
bush. It burns with an intensity that should have consumed it but didn’t. It
beckoned to him. And when he approached it spoke to him.
1.
What thoughts and emotions might have occupied Moses on that day?
Ø
His
first 40 years was spent in a palace as an adopted prince. He had learned to be
self confident, even arrogant.
Ø
He
learned of his Hebrew heritage. Had he not been plucked from the water he would
have been a slave.
Ø
He
became a champion of the Jews but his impetuous murder of an Egyptian
taskmaster sent him into exile.
Ø
Now
he had become a humble shepherd so far away from significance that
even God could not find him!
Ø
There
was a time he thought he might do exploits but surely God would find a younger
man to accomplish His plans. At age 80 he would content himself with the sheep
and wonder how a life so full of promise could have come to such an ignominious
end.
2.
Never discount the program of God!
Ø
What
he has planned He will perform!
Ø
1
Sam 14:6 for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few!
Ø Do not try to
argue with a resolute God!
Ø
Ex 4:10-11 And Moses said unto the LORD, O
my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto
thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the LORD
said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or
the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?
3.
Don’t lapse into casualness while walking on Holy Ground!
Ø
Ex 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put
off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy
ground.
Ø
Acts 10:13-15 And there came a voice to him,
Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never
eaten any thing that is common or unclean. 15 And the voice spake unto him
again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou
common.
Ø
Don’t
settle down into a comfortable routine thinking that all your exploits are
behind you.
Ø
Dan 11:32 the people that do know their
God shall be strong, and do exploits.
Dear
Lord, your presence sanctifies the most common thing. Remind me that I may be
walking on Holy ground. AMEN
