2 Cor
2:9-11
9 For to this end also did I write, that
I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any
thing, to whom I forgave it, for your
sakes forgave I it in the person of
Christ;
11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of
us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Of the 16 times the word “devices” is used in the
Authorized Version, only once is it used in the New Testament. In the Old
Testament, the word is usually translated from machashabah which is
literally “a contrivance.” This is the word used in Jeremiah 18:18 which makes it clear that the schemes of Jeremiah’s
enemies included slander.
Jer
18:18
18 Then said they, Come, and let us
devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest,
nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue,
and let us not give heed to any of his words.
In the single usage of the word “devices” in the New
Testament, the word is noema and it literally means “a
plan; or a purpose.”
Back away from your troubles and look at them like a crime
scene investigator. Who is really behind all that you are going
through? If there are multiple problems, you may be the target of Satanic
devices. Jesus warned Peter that Satan had made a request regarding him.
Luke
22:31-32
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon,
behold, Satan hath desired to have
you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy
faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Dear Lord, protect me from the devices
of the devil. AMEN
