SIN IS ITS OWN
DETECTIVE!
Num 32:23 …and be sure your
sin will find you out.
I've
seen surveys where people were asked about doing certain things like
stealing or having an affair if they were assured they would never get caught.
Would they do them? Amazingly, some of the surveys indicate that over half WOULD do them
if they knew they wouldn't get caught. It is amazing how well we
police ourselves with the thought expressed in our text. We are “good” not
because we are good-at-heart but because we fear we might be caught.
Modern
forensic science makes it difficult – almost impossible – to commit a crime
and get by with it. Lipstick on a cup or glass or even a hair may provide DNA
that could “hang us” despite the best of lawyers and alibis. Sin is its own
detective.
Fear
of capture may keep us from sin but a much better force for
restraining sin is a good heart. Daniel began his captivity in
Dan 1:8
8 But
Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion
of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of
the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Dear
Lord, today let me remain purely motivated not because of fear but because of
faithfulness. AMEN
