PASS
ME NOT
Luke
18:35-39
35 And it came to pass,
that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side
begging:
36 And hearing the
multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37 And they told him,
that Jesus
of Nazareth passeth by.
38 And he cried, saying,
Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
39 And they which went
before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the
more, Thou
Son of David, have mercy on me.
Mark identifies this “certain man” as Bartimaeus. In fact,
Mark adds that he was commonly referred to by his ailment. This was “blind
Bartimaeus.” His ears told him what his eyes could not, that there was a crowd
passing by. He asked what it meant.
Bartimaeus had certainly heard of the man called Jesus. He
knew that he was a great healer and a kind man. He cried out for mercy, which
was his normal employment as a beggar, but this was more than a request for a
few coins. The disciples shushed him trying to protect Jesus from the
distraction of need, but he only cried louder and louder.
At age 12, I also cried out. I had heard about Jesus
the Savior, and I had a great need. Others were finding relief, and I feared
Jesus would pass me by. The song the church was singing was Pass
me not, O Gentle Savior.
Pass me not, O gentle
Savior
Hear my humble cry
While on others Thou art
calling
Do not pass me by
Savior, Savior
Hear my humble cry
While on others Thou art
calling
Do not pass me by
Dear,
Sweet Jesus, thank you for stopping. My life has never been the same. AMEN
