THE END OF
HOSTILITIES
Eph 2:13-17
13 But now in Christ
Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace,
who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition
between us; [both Jews and Gentiles of every stripe]
15 Having abolished in
his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for
to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might
reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity
thereby:
17 And came and preached
peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
The word “enmity,”
in verse 15 is the Greek echthra which means hostility. Paul was telling both
Jews and non-Jews that Jesus, Messiah, had abolished the hostilities that existed
between them and God. God had satisfied His wrath upon his Son instead of them.
Reconciliation was now possible because, in verse 16, the enmity or hostilities
had been slain.
Today is veterans’ day. The
armistice was signed on this day in 1919 which signaled the end of WWI and not,
as some think, WWII. Hostilities and all enmity would cease at the eleventh
hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Today we remember those who
removed the hostilities by paying the ultimate sacrifice. All gave some. Some
gave all.
Today is a good day
to remember what Christ has done for us. Let the bells ring loud. The end of hostilities
has come.
Thank you, Lord, for your
sacrifice. AMEN
