HE WON’T ABANDON YOU!
Isa 46:3-4
3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel , which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Nothing reveals the character and nature of God in a more amiable way than His treatment of children and old people. Youth needs a gentle restraint of their energies while old age needs strong support and comfort. My youth is a faded memory and my old age knocks at the door. What an encouragement to know that the God who carried me along from my birth will not abandon me now.
I suppose the most fearful aspect of growing older is not the pain and weakness in the limbs but the lack of control over your own affairs. The children that you once nurtured will one day nurture you. That, to me, is the worst of it and the best of it. It is not easy to go from can to can’t.
Jesus was rebuked by his own disciples for taking children into His lap and blessing them but he said this was the nature of heaven. He loved children and cared for the aged widows. “A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” (Ps 68:5)
Isa 40:28-29
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary ? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Dear Lord, I and many of my friends are growing older. Thank you for assuring us that you will not abandon us now. AMEN
