2 Peter 1:9-10a
9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see
afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make
your calling and election sure [stable or firm].
Wow! Who could forget that they had been cleansed from their old sins? The
answer seems obvious enough. Those who keep on sinning!
Adam Clarke says: “He, whether Jew or Gentile, who professes to have FAITH
in God, and has not added TO that faith fortitude, knowledge, temperance,
patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love; is blind. His understanding
is darkened, and he cannot see afar off. He is shutting his eyes against the
light, winking, and is not able to look truth in the face.”
Jesus gave the church at
Sardis this warning. “Remember therefore how thou
hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not
watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will
come upon thee." Rev 3:3
Dear Lord, let me meditate on Thy goodness, mercy, and
grace. Let me never forget! AMEN
