PRAYER SEEMS SILLY
Luke 11:1
11 And it came to pass, that,
as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said
unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his
disciples.
Think about it! We close our eyes to see an
invisible God. We have an option of praying silently – in our head – or out
loud for others to listen in. We ask for either mundane things like daily bread
or miraculous things like healing. Yes, to the unconverted heart and untrained
eye, prayer seems silly.
The disciples watched Jesus pray and there
was something very different about the way He went about it. It was not ritual
but conversational. It was not rushed nor labored. It was conversational. This
prompted them to ask for a complete tutorial on prayer.
Luke 11 is Jesus’ answer to their question. He taught
them to be persistent (11:5-8). He said that prayer is based on a relationship
similar to a Father and Son (11:11-13). It was, therefore, reasonable that the
relationship would drive the response. If I ask for a biscuit, will I get a
rock? The answer is simple. God loves me. I get a biscuit.
1 John 5:14-15
14 And this is the confidence
that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he
heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear
us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of
him.
Lord, thank you for access to
your very throne room. Thank you for hearing the whispers of my heart. AMEN
