WELCOME AUTUMN

 

Gen 8:21-22

21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

 

Ps 74:16-17

16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

 

          Today is the first day of Autumn. The sun has reached its zenith and will now begin its travel toward winter. The days will grow shorter, and the nights will grow longer. Temperatures will cool. Trees will respond with vibrant color and harvest time will begin. We welcome it and acknowledge that the seasons are not political but spiritual. God controls these things and has been doing so for centuries.

 

          God has decreed that the earth responds to a certain rhythm. It is the cycle of life and farmers know it better than most. The animals respond to this rhythm and we are wiser by observing them.

 

Mark 13:26-29

26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:

29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

 

Dear Lord, we see signals of changing seasons. We see that your return is near. Help us to be aware and prepare. AMEN
